Deciding what to do after school, or knowing where to start when considering a career change, can be overwhelming. There are so many options available and this can cause uncertainty - but if you’re interested in a career in STEM then we can help!
Here at the Yorkshire & Humber Institute of Technology, we provide students of all ages with flexible opportunities to build rewarding careers in businesses that are leading the way in designing and adopting new technologies.
There are many benefits when studying one of our courses - whether it’s a degree, apprenticeship, Higher National Certificate (HNC) or T-Level.
So what are these benefits? And how can you get involved?
Education suited to all learning styles
When you study a Yorkshire & Humber Institute of Technology course, you don’t spend your whole time learning theory in a classroom. Although this makes up an important part of the curriculum, we also understand the importance of gaining hands-on experience and real-world skills.
Our education partners across the region all have cutting-edge facilities which implement state-of-the-art technology to give students the skills they need to thrive in the modern world of work.
By offering a combination of theory and practical learning, we ensure our courses appeal to all learning styles - making them as accessible as possible.
Working with local employers
We take a collaborative approach to providing high quality STEM education and, to do this, we work with a number of employers across the Yorkshire and Humber regions.
We work closely with our employment partners to design and develop education provision in STEM subjects. They help us to create a curriculum that is bespoke to their job roles and also meets broader sector needs, so that our students graduate with the skills that are in demand.
This means that when you study a Yorkshire & Humber Institute of Technology course, you’ll have connections with local and regional businesses that are looking for employees with your skillset, increasing your chances of gaining employment.
Flexible learning
We understand that students need to balance their home and work lives and have other commitments - whether this is shift work, employment or caring for family members - so flexible learning is a key part of what we offer.
Our seven education partners offer full-time and part-time options, as well as online learning, to ensure they’re meeting every student’s needs. For some of our qualifications, it’s also possible to study individual units in isolation. This is perfect if you don’t require the full qualification, but specific content or units would meet your needs.
The ability to earn while you learn
If you’re looking for a more ‘hands-on’ approach to learning then apprenticeships are a great opportunity, and a number of our education partners offer these courses.
Apprenticeships bridge the gap between education and the workforce, allowing you to earn while you learn and build a rewarding career whilst meeting the needs of industries. This makes courses much more accessible for students who have financial commitments and are unable to commit to full-time, unpaid education.
Our education partners offer apprenticeships in subject areas including construction and engineering, digital and agriculture - find out more here.
A world of opportunity
STEM plays a critical role in today’s world and it influences nearly every aspect of our lives. Because of this, almost every industry is connected to STEM, whether directly or through other elements like their supply chain.
With this in mind, studying a Yorkshire & Humber Institute of Technology course will open up a world of career opportunities for you. All industries rely on STEM skills, so having these skills will unlock your potential and make you much more employable than people who don’t.
Whether it’s tech, healthcare, manufacturing or even the creative industries, STEM skills are at the core of modern innovation and we can help you play a vital role in this.
