Here at the Yorkshire & Humber Institute of Technology, we’re on a transformative journey to shape the future of STEM education and empower people to thrive in a technology-driven world.
We offer access to high-quality, higher-level technical education and training, working with partners across the region to ensure people possess the skills that employers need now and in the future.
Read on to find out more about the range of subjects on offer when you choose to study with us…
Agriculture
As complex businesses that balance countless variables, farms and agribusinesses have a growing demand for highly skilled STEM workers.
Technology plays a major role in agriculture and the demands of feeding a growing global population has driven the progress toward more efficient and sustainable practices. These include precision agriculture, which utilises GPS, sensors and drones to optimise resource usage and reduce waste, as well as the use of data analytics and AI to enable informed decision-making in various aspects of farming.
Because of its largely rural landscape, Yorkshire and the Humber is a big farming region. Farming in the region generates £622 million each year, and the average farm size here is the fourth largest of all the English regions.
With all this in mind, agriculture is one of our key subject areas and we work with Askham Bryan College, Bishop Burton College and Craven College to deliver these courses.
With this shift in focus in the industry, it’s important that the next generation of farmers have the technical skills needed to continue meeting food demands and allow the industry to thrive.
To meet this goal, our partners offer courses including:

Digital
In the modern world, almost every career requires some level of digital skills. Technology is an integral part of everyday life and this has fuelled the demand for skills relating to cutting-edge technologies like AI, machine learning, big data analytics and cloud computing.
And although the digital world has brought a whole world of opportunity, it has also presented a number of challenges. This has, in turn, driven the demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals and those who can use technology which detects, prevents and mitigates cyber threats.
To ensure the industry has a pipeline of talent with the desired skill sets, we work with Craven College, East Riding College, Scarborough TEC, Selby College and York College & University Centre to offer courses such as:

Engineering & Construction
The engineering and construction industry’s focus on renewable energy solutions, sustainable practices and emerging technologies has propelled it to the forefront of technological growth.
Those working in the industry today are doing so alongside technologies like AI and robotics, and must foster innovative methods such as 3D printing and prefabrication.
We work alongside East Riding College, Scarborough TEC, Selby College and York College & University Centre to offer engineering and construction courses including:

Horticulture & Animal Care
In recent years, we have seen advancements in precision agriculture and smart farming techniques which have revolutionised crop monitoring, irrigation and pest control.
There has also been increased awareness and interest in animal welfare which has resulted in the implementation of advanced technologies like biometrics, wearable devices and data analytics to optimise animal care practices.
With this in mind, the current and future workforce must have the skills to keep pace with the demands of the industry, as well as the challenges that come with the increased use of technology.
Alongside Askham Bryan College, Bishop Burton College and Craven College, we offer courses that teach these skills, including:
